Suspected Cultists Shoot YABATECH Student Dead

Authorities have apprehended seven suspects following the fatal shooting of an unidentified student from the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos, believed to be related to cult activity.
The incident reported earlier by FCNN occurred on Tuesday shortly after students had completed their exams for the day.
Witnesses report that the victim was on his way to the back gate of the college when he was confronted by armed assailants who shot him at close range.
One student, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the situation, recounted, “The student had just finished his exams and was approaching the back gate when he was approached by several individuals who shot him twice. It all happened very quickly, and the campus was thrown into a state of panic as students nearby fled for safety.”
Another eyewitness noted that the attackers appeared to be searching for something on the victim after the shooting.
“It seemed like a targeted cult attack because they found a firearm with him. They searched his bag immediately after the shooting and pulled out a gun and a bullet, ensuring he was dead before leaving,” the student stated.
Reports suggest that a similar incident occurred on campus the previous week, raising concerns about ongoing rivalries between local cult groups. A source connected to the college stated, “This killing appears to be retaliation for a previous incident where a suspected cult member was shot but survived. This seems like a revenge act.”
When reached for comment, YABATECH spokesperson Adekunle Adams clarified that the shooting did not take place on college grounds, asserting, “The incident occurred at a lounge near the college. There have been no cult-related incidents within the college itself.”

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police, confirmed the student was shot by rival cult members and indicated that seven suspects have been arrested as part of the investigation. He explained, “At around 3 PM on Tuesday, we received a distress call reporting that a suspected cultist had been shot dead by rival cult members in the Yaba area. Our patrol team quickly responded and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood, with visible signs of violence consistent with bullet wounds. Four rounds of live ammunition and some charms were recovered from his pocket at the scene. The body has since been sent to the morgue for an autopsy.”
The shooting occurred just 24 hours after a 16-year-old boy, identified only as Mustapha, was tragically killed by a stray bullet during a suspected cult clash in the Oyingbo area of Ebute Metta.
FCNN also learnt the incident took place after a peace walk organized by local youth aimed at addressing the increasing violence related to cult activity in the community.
The walk had recently concluded when a disagreement arose among participants, resulting in a shootout that caused multiple casualties.
