Five individuals, four women and a man have been arrested in Lagos for allegedly conspiring to sell a two-week-old baby for N3 million.

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the suspects — Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Elizabeth Bishop, Bukola Oladapo, and Jimoh Bashiru — were arrested by officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for abduction and child theft.

According to Hundeyin, the case began on May 5, 2025, when a man reported at the Ajah Police Division that his 16-year-old cousin, Happiness, who was pregnant, had gone missing. She had been placed in the care of Nonye Osi due to the family’s financial hardship.

However, Osi allegedly conspired with the others to relocate Happiness without informing the family. When she was later found, she no longer had the baby, prompting a full investigation.
