Abuja Court Summons APC Candidate, Senator Okpebholo, Over Alleged Age Falsification in Edo Governorship Election

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Edo State Governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024, has been summoned by the Chief Magistrate Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Wuse over charges of forgery and perjury.

The case was initiated by Chief Honesty Aginbatse, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), after discrepancies were reported in the birth dates submitted by Senator Okpebholo in his nomination forms to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to documents obtained by Fusion Chronicles, the discrepancies in Senator Okpebholo’s birth dates have raised concerns. His 2023 Senate nomination form submitted to INEC lists March 29, 1970, as his birth date, while his 2024 governorship nomination affidavit shows varying dates. These include August 29, 1970, in an age declaration document, August 29, 1972, on his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate, and August 1, 1977, on his INEC voter card.

On July 22, Fusion Chronicles had reported fresh allegations against Senator Okpebholo, specifically related to age falsification.
