
1,969,313 candidates sat for the examination across 23,554 schools.Only 754,545 candidates (38.32%) obtained a minimum of five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. This represents a significant 33.8% drop from the 72.12% recorded in 2024.
According to Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of Nigeria National Office, WAEC, the drop in performance is due to the Council’s new approach of serialising objective test papers in key subjects, making examination malpractice more difficult.
The examination was conducted between April 24 and June 20, 2025, and coordination and marking took place from July 3 to 21.WAEC deployed a real-time digital scoring system to enhance the speed and accuracy of result processing.
FCNN gathered that 1,517,517 (77.06%) candidates had their results fully processed, while 451,796 (22.94%) results are still being processed due to technical issues.192,089 results (9.75%) are currently being withheld for offenses including the use of banned mobile phones and collusion.12,178 candidates with special needs registered for the 2025 WASSCE.
976,787 (49.60%) candidates were male.
992,526 (50.40%) candidates were female.
Females outperformed males, accounting for 53.99% of the successful candidates.
This year’s exam marked a significant milestone as WAEC allowed candidates to choose between the traditional paper-and-pencil format and a CBT option.WAEC aims to fully digitise its examinations by 2026.
