Gunmen Abduct Palace Officials, Torch Houses in Plateau Community

Suspected gunmen have abducted three individuals, including two palace officials, and set several houses ablaze in the Bunyun community, located in the Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State.

FCNN gathered that the attack occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and may be connected to a violent clash between vigilantes and bandits last Sunday, which left several vigilantes dead and numerous homes destroyed.

Confirming the incident to journalists in Jos on Thursday, the community’s traditional ruler, Abdulbari’u Muhammad, said the attackers arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, looting valuables such as food, clothing, and motorcycles.

“We are completely confused and don’t know what to do, which is why we fled to Bashar. Everybody has left because no one feels safe in the area anymore,” Muhammad said.

He identified the abducted palace officials as Waziri and Wakili, the latter being his younger brother.

Residents reported that the attack forced a mass exodus from Bunyun, with many fleeing to neighbouring communities like Bashar in search of safety.

One resident, Abubakar Zubairu, told reporters that the entire village had been deserted by Thursday morning.

Muhammad appealed to the government to urgently deploy security personnel to the area, stressing the importance of protecting farmers and their livelihoods.

“Our crops have already been planted, and we’re deeply concerned. We need the government’s help with security so we can return to our farms,” he added.

The attack underscores the escalating insecurity across parts of Plateau State and the urgent need for government intervention.
