Senator Natasha Demands Security Restoration After Court Victory
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has officially informed the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of her scheduled return to the Senate on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, following a Federal High Court ruling that nullified her suspension from the National Assembly.
In a letter titled “Police Acknowledgement – Notification of Resumption and Request for Restoration of Police Protection” and obtained by FCNN, the Kogi Central lawmaker referenced the judgment delivered in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/543/2024, which ruled her suspension by the Senate as unconstitutional and beyond the powers granted under Section 63 of the 1999 Constitution.
The court ordered the Senate to recall Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and allow her to resume her legislative responsibilities. Ahead of her return, she has requested the immediate reinstatement of her official police protection, citing serious security risks often faced by high-profile politicians.
Despite this formal request, FCNN has learned that the IGP is yet to restore her security details, and the Nigerian Police Force has not issued any official response.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized that protecting elected officials is crucial for the smooth functioning of democracy and urged the police chief to act swiftly. She also attached a Certified True Copy of the court judgment, specifically referencing Order 12, in her letter to reinforce the legitimacy of her request.
She expressed confidence in the Inspector-General’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of public officeholders.
