Plateau Elders Back Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s Vision for Inclusive Governance and Transformation

Jos, Plateau State – Elders of Plateau State have endorsed the leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, lauding his commitment to fostering unity, inclusive governance, and the rapid transformation of the state.
At a luncheon held at the Banquet Hall of the New Government House in Rayfield, Jos, the elders, comprising respected leaders across the state, expressed confidence in Governor Mutfwang’s efforts to ensure security and good governance.
Rear Admiral Samuel Bitrus Atikum (Rtd.), a former Military Governor of Plateau State, praised Governor Mutfwang for his inclusive and pragmatic approach to governance. He highlighted the Governor’s efforts in road construction and rehabilitation in the Jos-Bukuru Metropolis, emphasizing the equitable consideration of all communities. Admiral Atikum also commended the Governor’s resilience in tackling the state’s security challenges, urging support from elders across political and ethnic lines to address insecurity effectively.
Admiral Atikum advised the Governor to rise above partisan politics, maintain a focus on even development, and avoid sycophants, emphasizing the need for visionary policies that prioritize the welfare of Plateau citizens.
Former Governors of Plateau State—Sen. Joshua Chibi Dariye, Sen. Jonah David Jang, and Sen. Simon Bako Lalong—also lauded the Governor’s strides in uniting the people and advancing the state’s development. They pledged their unwavering support through constructive advice and called for regular engagements with Plateau Elders to harness collective wisdom for addressing the state’s challenges.
Other prominent speakers at the event included Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, Chief Samuel Mafwai, and the Emir of Kanam, Alhaji Mu’azu Babangida Mu’azu, representing the traditional institutions. They expressed alignment with Governor Mutfwang’s vision for Plateau State’s progress, commending his introduction of Metro Buses and the revival of the railway line between Jos and Bukuru to alleviate citizens’ hardships.
In his address, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the elders for their swift response to his call for dialogue. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Plateau State through security enhancements, economic development, and inclusive governance.
Governor Mutfwang highlighted significant investments in surveillance technology, which have bolstered security and contributed to the peace currently being enjoyed in the state. He also emphasized the revival of the state’s tourism sector, with ongoing efforts to rebuild key facilities such as the Hill Station Hotel, Plateau State Hotel, and the Jos Abattoir. These projects, he noted, are geared toward creating employment and boosting internal revenue.
The Governor also appealed to the Tarok and Ronkulere communities to unite and present candidates for the coronation of the Ponshi Tarok and Saf Ronkulere, respectively, to complete the state’s traditional leadership structure.
He assured the elders of continued collaboration through regular engagements to deliberate on strategies for enhancing the state’s social and economic status.
The luncheon underscored Governor Mutfwang’s inclusive approach to governance, which has earned widespread support from Plateau Elders as they unite to chart a transformative path for the state’s future.
