Suspected Fulani Gunmen Burn Bus Carrying Bags of Rice in Guma, Driver Critically Injured
Tragedy struck along the Udei–Ngban road in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State when armed Fulani herdsmen ambushed and set ablaze a commercial bus transporting five bags of rice.
The incident occurred near Keleke bridge in the Nyiev Council Ward. Eyewitnesses said the driver was moving cautiously while attempting to cross the bridge when the gunmen emerged from nearby bushes and opened fire.
The driver was reportedly shot during the attack and is currently battling for his life, with medical sources describing his condition as critical.
The brazen attack has further deepened fears among residents and commuters, particularly members of the Tiv ethnic group, who have been frequent victims of similar ambushes and violence in the region.
Tivta Samuel Aondohemba, a concerned citizen, described the incident as yet another targeted assault on innocent Tiv farmers and travelers, calling for urgent government intervention to halt the recurring bloodshed in Benue’s rural communities.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim, the family, and the entire Isherev people,” he said.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the attack, but local vigilante groups have reportedly increased patrols in the area.
