Terrorism: Security is everyone’s responsibility – Nuhu Ribadu

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has once again reassured Nigerians of an intensified approach in tackling terrorism, violent extremism, and organised crime as the country steps into 2025.

The NSA also highlighted a robust strategy involving enhanced collaboration, innovative measures, and proactive responses to address the nation’s security challenges in 2025.

Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, Ribadu expressed confidence while speaking at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, stated that
the recent advancements, including the operationalisation of the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell, would help in combating violent crimes in the new year.

He went further to announce their plans to introduce dedicated emergency numbers to facilitate timely reporting and intervention.

According to him: , “Looking to 2025, Ribadu reassures Nigerians of the renewed focus on combating terrorism, violent extremism and other serious organised crimes through enhanced collaboration, innovative strategies, and proactive measures.

 “He highlights recent advancements, including the operationalisation of the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre developed with support from the United Kingdom National Crime Agency to address kidnapping and related crimes. Additionally, dedicated emergency numbers will be made available to facilitate timely reporting and intervention.”

Reflecting on the security landscape in 2024, Ribadu acknowledged significant challenges, such as the resurgence of the Lakurawa terrorist group in the North-West and the sabotage of critical national infrastructure by non-state actors.Despite these hurdles, he praised the Armed Forces and security agencies for their relentless efforts in containing these threats.

“The year 2024 brought its share of security challenges, yet we’ve witnessed remarkable resilience from our security personnel and citizens alike,” Ribadu said.

Ribadu attributed the successes achieved in 2024 to the exceptional leadership of President Bola Tinubu, whose unwavering political will sustained nationwide security efforts.

He emphasised that the progress made was a result of collaboration among the Armed Forces, security agencies, intelligence community, and the active cooperation of Nigerians.

He also commended the families of these personnel for their unwavering support.
“Your sacrifices on the front lines, despite the harshest conditions, demonstrate staunch patriotism, courage, and dedication,” Ribadu said.

Looking ahead, Ribadu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperative in the fight against insecurity.He reiterated the importance of citizens’ involvement, encouraging prompt reporting of suspicious activities to authorities.

“Security is everyone’s responsibility. The fight against terrorism and criminality cannot be won without the active participation of citizens. If you see something, say something,” Ribadu stated
