FCT Minister Demolishes Abuja Estate Amid Controversy
A multi-million-naira estate near Kugbo in Karu, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has been demolished, reportedly on the orders of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, sparking allegations of unlawful demolition and land grabbing.
Developers, NGBEDE & Brothers International Company Ltd, claim the estate had full approvals from the FCT Development Control and had begun building 35 housing units with supporting infrastructure after receiving formal approval in January 2025.

Eyewitnesses say no demolition notice was given, and no markings were made on the buildings before the Thursday morning demolition. A company representative called the act “criminal” and accused the minister of having a personal interest in the land.
Documents show the company had paid over N2.7 million in official fees. However, the FCT Minister’s aide, Lere Olayinka, defended the action, saying the estate was on a site redesigned for a new bus terminal and that the developer ignored official warnings.
