Court Stops INEC from Accepting Petition for Recall of Natasha

A Federal High Court in Lokoja has issued an interim injunction preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from processing recall petitions against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The injunction, granted Thursday in response to an ex-parte application, also prohibits INEC staff from accepting petitions with potentially fraudulent signatures.
The move to recall Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan appears to have gained momentum recently, with groups in Kogi Central supporting the initiative. However, some Ebira indigenes dispute claims that the recall is being financially motivated by the Senator’s political opponents.

The court’s order was based on an application presented by lawyer Smart Nwachimere, Esq., on behalf of Anebe Jacob Ogirima and four other registered voters from Kogi Central. The case has been adjourned until May 6, 2025, for service and further proceedings. A pressure group, Action Collective, praised the court’s decision, asserting it will highlight the possible misconduct behind the recall attempt.
