Swift Emergency Response Prevents Gas Tanker Disaster in Jos

A potential catastrophe was averted in the Lamingo area of Jos metropolis after a gas tanker crash was swiftly managed through coordinated efforts by emergency responders and security agencies. The Plateau State Ministry of Transport, in its commitment to reducing tanker and truck accidents, ensured prompt intervention that prevented a major disaster.

According to a statement by Corps Commander Maxwell K. Lede, the Sector Commander of RS4.1 Federal Road Safety Plateau, the accident occurred at approximately 7:03 PM near the TT & T roundabout along the Jos-Bauchi ring road. The crash involved three vehicles and led to significant traffic disruptions.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) received the distress call at 7:06 PM and arrived at the scene within 14 minutes. Their swift action, alongside the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Fire Service, was crucial in preventing a secondary incident, particularly a gas explosion.

To ensure safety, security agencies immediately rerouted traffic away from the crash site, advising motorists to use alternative routes such as Terminus, Bauchi Road, and Kwan Road. Fire service personnel remained on high alert, deploying suppression equipment and closely monitoring the gas tanker to prevent any leakage or ignition.

Armed security personnel, including officers from the Nigerian Army and the NPF, secured the area to keep unauthorized individuals at a safe distance. Meanwhile, local residents and passersby played a vital role by assisting emergency responders in managing traffic and ensuring smooth evacuation procedures.

The FRSC and other agencies issued public advisories urging commuters to avoid the area to reduce congestion and minimize risks.

Corps Commander Maxwell K. Lede commended the swift collaboration of all response teams and the public’s cooperation in ensuring safety.

“The immediate and effective teamwork between emergency response teams, security agencies, and the public has prevented what could have been a tragic disaster. We appreciate the patience of motorists and urge everyone to remain cautious while using the roads,” he stated.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation while investigating the cause of the crash. Motorists and residents are advised to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent future incidents.
