Governor Mutfwang Reaffirms Commitment to Transforming Livestock Production in Plateau State

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to developing livestock production into a key revenue-generating sector for the state.

Governor Mutfwang made this pledge on Friday during a strategic meeting with delegations from the World Bank and the Federal Government at the New Government House in Rayfield, Jos. The discussions centered on evaluating the state’s preparedness for the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).

He emphasized the significance of the project in revitalizing the Jos Abattoir and positioning it as a central hub for beef exportation. “We hope that the Livestock Productivity initiative gains widespread acceptance because it benefits the entire nation. In Botswana, livestock accounts for 50% of their GDP, and Plateau State has the potential to achieve similar success, particularly with the abattoir serving as a focal point,” Governor Mutfwang noted.

The World Bank delegation, headed by Dr. Mandeville Sene Emmanuel, expressed their commitment to reviewing and accelerating existing projects to maximize developmental impact. Dr. Emmanuel assured the Governor of the team’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Plateau State Government to create a clear roadmap for sustainable development.

In a related engagement, Governor Mutfwang welcomed Princess Zarah Mustapha Audu, Special Adviser, Technical to the Vice President on Foreign Direct Investment, along with her delegation. The visit aimed to assess Plateau State’s economic environment in preparation for attracting foreign investors.

Governor Mutfwang underscored his administration’s deliberate initiatives to rejuvenate the agricultural sector, ensuring food security and sovereignty. He assured that the state is ready to provide accurate and verifiable data to potential investors. He also highlighted the use of technology to drive growth in key sectors such as health, agriculture, and tourism.

Additionally, Governor Mutfwang announced plans to adopt irrigation farming as a strategy to boost food security and enhance agricultural productivity.

Princess Zarah Mustapha Audu praised Plateau State’s dedication to fostering an investor-friendly environment. She noted that the visit was a follow-up to previous engagements in Sweden and Morocco aimed at promoting foreign investments in Nigeria, including Plateau State.

“We are here to evaluate the state’s readiness to welcome investors across various sectors for the overall growth and development of Plateau,” she remarked.
