Bandit Killed, AK-47 Rifle Recovered as Police Foil Robbery in Benue

A bandit identified as Awase Ankyunyo, alias Abi Doka, has been killed and an AK-47 rifle recovered following a gun battle with police officers along the Kendev–Zaki Biam road in Sankera, Benue State.

According to a press release issued by DSP Udeme Edet, Police Public Relations Officer on the operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed that bandits were actively robbing villagers in the area.

Responding swiftly, police patrol and tactical teams set up an ambush against the criminals. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which Ankyunyo was fatally wounded. He was confirmed dead at the hospital. An AK-47 rifle loaded with live ammunition was recovered from the scene.

FCNN learnt that other members of the gang reportedly fled with gunshot wounds toward the Chito axis.

The Commissioner of Police commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating banditry and protecting lives and property in Benue State.
