Over 4,000 Nigerian Teacher Candidates Fail 2025 TRCN Exam
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Dr. Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, TRCN’s Director of Certification and Licensing, confirmed that out of 13,782 registered candidates, 12,874—representing 93.4%—participated in the nationwide exam conducted from May 15 to 17. A total of 4,169 candidates failed, while 8,705, or 67.62%, passed.
Lagos State recorded the highest success rate at 80%, followed by Edo (73.3%), Niger (69.2%), and the Federal Capital Territory (68.3%).
Ezeahurukwe cited digital literacy as a major challenge. “Low digital competence affected the performance of several candidates,” she said.
To bridge the digital gap, the Council—under its new Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo—is rolling out initiatives such as online digital literacy training, updated curriculum guides, and access to past examination questions.
