Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara Denies Alleged Ties to Militant Group in Viral Video
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, currently under suspension, has publicly refuted claims linking him and his supporters to a Niger Delta militant group and the alleged bombing of oil and gas facilities in the region. The governor’s office dismissed the accusations as baseless, labeling a circulating video as “fake and malicious.”
In a statement released Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara emphasized that communities reportedly impacted by the purported explosions had already debunked the claims. According to the statement, local authorities in these areas confirmed no such incidents occurred, undermining the credibility of the viral footage.
The governor categorically denied any affiliation with militant groups, stressing his administration’s commitment to peace and security. “Governor Fubara has no connection to militant organizations, nor would he ever endorse actions threatening public safety, critical infrastructure, or Nigeria’s economy,” the statement read. It reiterated his repeated public assurances that maintaining stability in Rivers State remains a top priority, as “peace is the bedrock of governance and development.”
Fubara’s office issued a stern warning to individuals or groups exploiting the state’s ongoing political tensions to incite violence or sabotage economic assets. It urged social media users and bloggers to cease spreading misinformation, accusing them of fueling division and prompting “misguided decisions” harmful to the state’s progress.
The statement further called on security agencies to investigate the origins of the fabricated videos, which it claimed aimed to tarnish the state’s reputation. Authorities were urged to hold perpetrators accountable and prevent further dissemination of false narratives.
Governor Fubara’s rebuttal underscores his administration’s efforts to distance itself from unrest amid heightened political friction, while reinforcing calls for calm and adherence to the rule of law.
