Zamfara Terrorists Beg for Amnesty as Military Kills Four Top Commanders
As the Nigerian military intensifies its crackdown on terrorist strongholds in Zamfara State, more insurgents are seeking opportunities to surrender.
In a recent offensive, troops of Operation Fansan Yanma eliminated four notorious bandit commanders and captured a high-profile suspect during an overnight raid in Nasarawa village, Anka Local Government Area.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the operation on his verified X account, confirmed that one of those neutralized was a well-known native of Nasarawa village with deep ties to terrorist activities.
“This latest success is part of intensified efforts by the Nigerian Military to eliminate bandit groups operating in the region and restore peace to affected communities,” Makama stated.
During the operation, troops dismantled a key base linked to terror kingpin Bello Turji and recovered a significant cache of firearms. Acting on intelligence reports about terrorists regrouping, the military launched an offensive in Shinkafi and Zurmi local government areas, sweeping through Katsira and Fakai villages in search of criminal hideouts.
“After conducting a thorough cordon-and-search operation, the troops targeted Garin Fakai, which has long served as the operational hub for Bello Turji, one of Nigeria’s most wanted bandit leaders. In a decisive action, the troops destroyed Garin Fakai.
“Military sources confirmed that several structures within the camp were set ablaze, as the bandits fled the general area, leaving women and children behind who were later rescued by the troops.
“During this successful raid, troops recovered AK-47 rifles, RPG bombs and several rounds of ammunition.”
As military operations continue across Zamfara, a growing number of terrorists are reportedly willing to surrender.
Makama shared a video on his verified X account featuring one of Turji’s top commanders speaking with respected Islamic scholar Malam Murtala Bello Asada about renouncing violence.
“Malam Murtala Bello Asada, a respected Islamic Scholar, recently engaged in a conversation with a bandit from Turji’s faction. The armed criminal reportedly reached out voluntarily, stating his genuine intention to surrender and seek repentance.
“Malam Murtala reminded the bandit of past opportunities for surrender that were wasted due to their failure to drop their weapons. However, he assured him that if his resolve was genuine this time, proper steps could be taken to facilitate the process.”

While the military remains open to those willing to renounce violence, troops continue aggressive operations in Zamfara, Sokoto and Katsina states, targeting terrorist networks, neutralizing those resisting capture, and dismantling logistics hubs.
The Nigerian military’s clearance of Garin Fakai, a critical base for Turji’s operations, is a major victory in the fight against terrorism. Security analysts believe this will disrupt the bandits’ logistics, limit their ability to coordinate large-scale attacks and bring much-needed relief to communities ravaged by violence.
