21 Dead, 3 Injured in Zaria-Kano Expressway Crash — FRSC

A tragic head-on collision involving a commercial passenger bus and a heavy-duty truck has claimed the lives of 21 people along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the crash occurred around 8:20 a.m. at Kasuwar Dogo, Dakatsale. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by a route violation committed by the driver of the commercial Toyota Hiace bus, who drove against traffic and collided with an oncoming DAF truck.

Out of the 24 persons involved in the crash, 21 lost their lives — comprising 19 men and 2 women — while the remaining three sustained injuries.

“The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Nasarawa Hospital in Kano,” the statement said, adding that FRSC officials, alongside other emergency responders, cleared the road and restored traffic flow.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, extended condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

He also reiterated warnings to commercial and truck drivers to avoid reckless driving practices such as route violations, wrong-way driving, speeding, and dangerous overtaking, which he said continue to cause avoidable deaths on Nigerian roads.

“The FRSC urges all drivers to obey traffic rules, as they are designed to safeguard lives and property,” the statement read.
