Edo Man Arrested for Killing, Burying Girlfriend in Shallow Grave

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, in connection with the murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend, Osato Festus Edogiaweria, who was declared missing in April 2025.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, investigations commenced after the deceased’s mother, Mrs. Ojo, reported her daughter missing at the Aduwawa Police Division on April 25.

She explained that Osato had left home on April 20 with a friend and had not been seen or heard from since.

The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department for a more detailed probe, in line with the Command’s commitment to combating crime in the state.

Yamu disclosed that operatives from the Family Unit, relying on diligent investigation and technical intelligence, arrested Osaigbovo on June 18 in the Iyanomon community, located in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

During interrogation, Osaigbovo confessed to inviting Osato to his residence on April 27.

An argument reportedly ensued between them, during which Osato fell, hit her head, and died.

The suspect further admitted to transporting her body in a wheelbarrow to a nearby bush, where he buried her in a shallow grave just a few meters from his house.

“On June 20, 2025, Osaigbovo led police operatives to the burial site in the Iyanomon community. The remains of Osato Festus were exhumed in accordance with all required procedures. The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” Yamu said.
