Nasarawa Police Foil Major Arms Trafficking from Benue to Kwara, Arrest Two

The Nasarawa State Police Command has intercepted a major illegal arms trafficking operation, arresting two suspects in possession of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition destined for Kwara State.

The operation, led by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and based on credible intelligence, was executed at Around 3:09 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle traveling through Lafia and discovered a large haul of high-powered firearms.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Lawal Sani, 40, a commercial bus driver from Makwalla, Funtua LGA, Katsina State, and Dahiru Abdullahi, 75, a cattle trader from Angwan Dosa, Kaduna North LGA, Kaduna State, who operates within the Keffi Cattle Market in Nasarawa.

According to police sources, the suspects confessed to being paid ₦500,000 to transport the weapons from Benue to Ilorin, Kwara State. Authorities believe the arms were intended to supply multiple criminal groups.

Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the swift action of his officers and issued a stern warning to criminal syndicates: “Nasarawa State is not a safe corridor for crime. Our command is committed to dismantling illegal arms networks and safeguarding lives.”

A full investigation is ongoing to uncover the broader criminal network behind the trafficking attempt.
