The Niger State Police Command has officially addressed a trending video in which a vigilante leader from Mokwa alleged that five suspected kidnappers were arrested in the area but only three were charged to court.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Command clarified that the five suspects mentioned in the viral video are not all linked to the same case, as alleged.
According to the police, the first three suspects — Mohammed Dansajo, Mohammed Dangi of Kara Village, and Abubakar Usman Abule of Kara-Jebba, Mokwa — were arrested over a kidnapping that took place on March 14th, 2024. Armed robbers dashed into a shop in Sawmill, Mokwa around 10 p.m. and abducted a victim. During investigations, two mobile phones and a live cartridge were recovered from the place.

One of the phones was traced to suspect Mohammed Dansajo, who confessed to being involved in the incident and implicated other accomplices. Two of those mentioned — Mohammed Dangi and Abubakar — were later arrested, however others remain at large. The suspects allegedly collected a ransom of three million naira before releasing their victim. They have since been arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 1 and re-assigned to Court 7 for prosecution.
The remaining two suspects — Mohammed Umar and Abubakar Usman of Tunga-Ruwa Village — were involved in a separate kidnapping and robbery case, initially referred to the Police by Magistrate Court, Jebba on May 2nd, 2024. Investigations showed that Umar had lured a motorcyclist who has not been seen since, while the victim’s phone was recovered from Abubakar. Both were charged to Magistrate Court, Jebba.
The Police Command reaffirmed that all five suspects are facing prosecution, but for different incidents. They warned against the spread of misleading information.
