Ogun Landlord Narrowly Escapes Death as Mast Collapses During Downpour

A landlord in Unity Estate, Alagbole Akute, Ogun State, narrowly escaped death on Tuesday when a communication mast collapsed onto his building during a heavy downpour, damaging parts of the structure.
According to reports, the landlord was inside the house when the incident occurred but sustained only minor injuries.
He has since received medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition.
This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola. She confirmed that the incident was reported at around 2:39 p.m. on Tuesday by a resident, Mr. Moses Olalere.
“On June 3, 2025, at about 14:39 hours, the Ogun State Police Command received a distress call from Mr. Moses Olalere reporting a natural disaster during a downpour,” Odutola stated. “According to his eyewitness account, a communication mast belonging to IHS Company, located in Ajuwon, Akute, collapsed due to severe weather. The mast fell onto a residential building in Unity Estate, Alagbole.”
She added that the landlord, though caught inside during the incident, survived with only minor bruises and was promptly treated by medical personnel.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, directed immediate public awareness campaigns across the state to prevent similar occurrences.
He also instructed Area Commanders to engage with companies operating masts near residential areas to evaluate their structural safety and ensure the protection of lives and property.

A preliminary investigation into the incident has commenced, and authorities have assured the public that further updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses.
