Nigeria–Brazil Air Link: Air Peace Announces Lagos–São Paulo Flights After Presidential Visit
Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Brazil, Air Peace will launch a direct flight route from Lagos to São Paulo. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed this in a statement, highlighting that the establishment of this route was among the agreements made between Tinubu and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during Tinubu’s official state visit.
“Increasing the direct connections between Nigeria and Brazil is another essential step to strengthen the ties between our societies. We have approved the launch of a direct flight, to be operated by Nigeria’s largest airline company, Air Peace, between Lagos and São Paulo,” the Brazilian President said at a joint conference with Tinubu.
Tinubu and Lula da Silva witnessed the signing of agreements and MOUs at the Palácio do Planalto in Brasília after the bilateral meeting between both countries.
Other agreements signed at the meeting include the Bilateral Air Services Agreement to boost trade and people-to-people ties, which was signed by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filhos; and an agreement on Diplomatic Training Cooperation signed by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, and her Brazilian counterpart, Ambassador Mauro Vieira.
Bilateral agreements were also signed to promote cooperation in biotechnology, bioeconomy, ocean science, innovation ecosystems, energy, space development, digital transformation, and raw materials research between the two countries. This was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, and Brazil’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Luciana Santos.
The Managing Director of Nigeria’s Bank of Agriculture, Ayo Sotinrin, and Brazil’s Minister for the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Aluísio Mercadante, signed an MOU for cooperation on trade and investment promotion, harmonising efforts to expand agricultural financing, investment, and joint projects.
