Man kills self over second wife’s death

A resident of Niger State, identified as Stephen Moses, has reportedly taken his own life after expressing suicidal thoughts following the death of his youngest wife.
The 30-year-old, who made a living as a hunter, allegedly used a dane gun to shoot himself in the chest.
Neighbors reported that when police arrived at the scene, they found Moses’s lifeless body along with the firearm on the ground.
The body was subsequently transported to a hospital for examination.
Witnesses stated that in the period leading up to the incident, Moses had frequently threatened to end his life after the passing of his wife, but his threats were not taken seriously by those around him.
Wasiu Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Police Command, confirmed the incident expressing regret that neither family members nor friends had reported Moses’s threats to authorities.
Abiodun detailed the case: “On April 24, 2025, around 8 p.m., we received a report that Stephen Moses, 30, of Ikumi village in the Gawu-Babangida area, shot himself with a dane gun in his farm earlier that afternoon.
Police from the Gawu-Babangida Division responded to the scene, where they discovered the gun and the deceased’s body. The corpse was then sent to the hospital for further investigation.”

He added that preliminary findings indicated Moses had been grieving his wife’s recent death and had made threats to take his own life, yet his family had failed to notify the police in advance to prevent this tragedy.
