PLATEAU STATE GOVERNMENT AFFIRMS DEDICATION TO ADDRESSING TRANSPORTATION CHALLENGES AMID FEDERAL SETBACK

In response to the unexpected challenges surrounding the Federal Assisted Mass Transit initiative, the Plateau State Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Davou Jatau Gyang, has expressed deep regret over the Federal Ministry of Transportation’s inability to deliver on its promise to reduce travel costs during the festive season.

Despite this setback, the Plateau State government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting residents and addressing transportation challenges.

Reports indicate that the Federal Ministry of Transportation had earlier sought the cooperation of state transport commissioners to allocate specific terminals for travelers arriving from Abuja and Lagos. The Plateau State government, under the leadership of Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, responded swiftly by mobilizing resources to meet the requirements of the initiative within a tight deadline.

Unfortunately, the program faced an unexpected obstacle when transport unions reportedly demanded payment before buses could begin operations. This development left many hopeful beneficiaries disappointed and disrupted the initiative.

Reacting to the situation, Hon. Jatau expressed his disappointment over the outcome but highlighted the proactive measures taken by the Ministry to support the program. “Our commitment to the welfare of our people remains steadfast. Although the situation was beyond our direct control, we are exploring alternative solutions to ensure our citizens are not left stranded during this festive season,” he stated.

In response to the challenges, the Plateau State Governor has instructed the Ministry of Transport to implement immediate interventions aimed at providing affordable transportation options for residents. These measures include engaging local transport unions, subsidizing fares, and deploying state-owned buses on critical routes.

The state government has also urged the Federal Ministry of Transportation to address the issues that hindered the success of the initiative and improve collaboration in future programs.

Despite the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen situation, citizens have commended the Governor for his prompt response and dedication to finding solutions. Many have praised his efforts to prioritize the welfare of the people, even in the face of federal setbacks.

As the festive season progresses, the Plateau State government remains determined to ensure residents can travel safely and affordably, reinforcing its reputation for people-centered governance.
