Ahmed Wakil, the state Police Public Relations Officer, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday on behalf of Auwal Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police,

Wakil emphasized that officers from the Yelwa Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended six individuals linked to armed robbery, conspiracy, and aiding criminal activities.

The suspects include Musa Umar (17), Ibrahim Mohammed (17), Bilal Musa (17), Idriss Jibrin (17), and Maryam Salisu (40).

“During the investigation, the following stolen items were recovered, two laptops, four mobile phones and three chargers, two flashlights, three bottles of palm oil, one headphone set, one power bank, and one MP3 player,” Wakil stated.

Also, detectives from the Yelwa Division also arrested Adamu Mohammed (22) of GRA Bauchi for allegedly stealing an armoured cable from his workplace, where he served as a security guard.

“During questioning, the suspect confessed to the theft. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court upon its conclusion.” The PPRO stated.

The command also re-arrested an ex-convict, Jaafar Lawan (34), for robbery. Wakil narrated how the suspect had previously been arrested and convicted for an attack on a commercial motorcyclist in July 2023.

“Jaafar, posing as a passenger, attacked the motorcyclist alongside an accomplice, inflicting severe injuries with a trailer-wheel spanner. He was convicted in court but has now been linked to another crime,” the statement read.

On November 17, 2024, a fresh complaint against Jaafar was lodged at the Dutsen Tanshi Division.

According to the victim, Jaafar requested a ride and, during the journey, applied a substance that caused the victim to lose consciousness.

“The victim regained consciousness three days later in a hospital,” Wakil explained.

He went ahead adding that investigations are still on going and the suspect will face fresh charges in court.

The command restated its commitment to maintaining law and order during the festive season, urging residents to report suspicious activities.

“The proactive measures are part of the command’s strategy to ensure a crime-free Yuletide and protect citizens from criminal elements,” Wakil added.
