Police,DSS Fight War Over Killing of Inspector

A Police Inspector, Bello Abdullah, was killed during a “stop and search” exercise by the police in Uli, Ihiala local government area of Anambra State.

The incident occurred when police intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle used by DSS operatives, who allegedly resisted the search, leading to an exchange of fire.

The police and DSS are blaming each other for the incident, with some police officers seeking retaliation.

The Anambra Police Command has described the incident as “unfortunate” and a “mistake”.

The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Awka for further investigation.

A senior police officer said the command would not let the incident die, describing it as an affront to the police.

A DSS source said the stop-and-search team’s actions were an embarrassment to them and that they are ready for a confrontation, criticizing the police’s behavior as that of “untrained people”.
