FG Sets 30-Day Deadline for Keffi Flyover Repairs

The Federal Government has announced a 30-day emergency timeline to complete repairs on the damaged Keffi flyover in Nasarawa State after one of its beams collapsed due to a collision with an overloaded trailer.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, who led a team of engineers on an inspection visit to the site on Sunday, said the incident occurred on Thursday, July 17, 2025, when a truck carrying an excavator struck the bridge.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, it was revealed that the impact dislodged one beam and severely damaged two others.

The crash claimed the lives of two people and left two others seriously injured.

Following an initial inspection led by top ministry officials, including Permanent Secretary Olufunso Adebiyi, a section of the flyover was immediately closed to prevent further damage and protect public safety.

“The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has inspected the damaged Keffi flyover caused by an overloaded truck transporting an excavator,” the statement read. “The impact completely dislodged one beam and damaged two others. During the assessment on Sunday, July 20, 2025, it was confirmed that the fallen beam destroyed the walkway and parapet, while the remaining two, though intact, showed visible damage.”

As part of the emergency response, Umahi directed CGC Nigeria Limited—currently handling federal road projects in the FCT—to immediately redesign and fabricate a replacement beam. He stated that the repair works would take approximately 30 days, after which a structural integrity test would be carried out before the new beam is installed.

“The Federal Government is handling this as an emergency,” Umahi said. “Funding is being sourced through an intervention window, pending full budgetary releases. President Bola Tinubu has been briefed and has ordered immediate remedial action.”

He also extended condolences to the families of those affected by the accident and assured the public of the government’s commitment to preventing future occurrences.

Umahi was accompanied on the site visit by Mohammed Ahmed; Deputy Director of Design and Bridges, Musa Seidu; and Federal Controller of Works, FCT, Yakubu Usman.

The Keffi flyover is a key part of the transport network linking the Federal Capital Territory with Nasarawa and the wider North-Central region.
