Babcock Graduate Found Dead in Hostel – Police Confirm

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Samuel Akawa, a 20-year-old recent graduate of Information Technology from Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo.
According to reports, Akawa was found unresponsive by his roommates in their hostel on Wednesday and was immediately rushed to the university’s teaching hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Speaking on the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said, “The case was reported to the Ilishan Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.”
Providing more context, the university’s spokesperson, Joshua Sulaimon, explained that Akawa had complained of feeling unwell the day before his death.
“He informed his roommate on July 29 that he wasn’t feeling fine. His roommate advised him to visit the hospital, but he declined, saying he would be going home the next day, July 30, to see his family doctor,” Sulaimon stated.
However, when his roommates noticed he hadn’t woken up the next morning, they alerted the hostel officer, who took him to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, in a post on X, revealed that Akawa had been on campus to complete his clearance ahead of graduation.
He added that the deceased was in good spirits the night before his death and was seen playing games on his laptop until around 11 p.m.
