The 14th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, has expressed deep concern over the persistent underdevelopment in Northern Nigeria, particularly in the sectors of education and agriculture. During a recent address, Sanusi lamented that the region continues to lag behind the rest of the country due to systemic neglect and a lack of progressive policies. He emphasized that these challenges have led to significant socio-economic setbacks, leaving millions trapped in poverty and hindering the region’s potential.
Sanusi highlighted the urgent need for robust educational reforms, pointing out that the region’s high illiteracy rates remain a major barrier to growth. He also underscored the importance of revitalizing agriculture, which is a key livelihood for many Northern communities, but suffers from outdated practices and inadequate infrastructure. The former Central Bank Governor called on policymakers, traditional leaders, and stakeholders to collaborate on initiatives that prioritize education, modernize agricultural systems, and create opportunities for sustainable development. Sanusi’s call for action serves as a reminder that addressing these issues is crucial not only for the North but for the entire country’s progress and stability.
