Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Saturday condemned the killing of 58 residents and five soldiers in Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area.
The governor, who visited the community to commiserate with grieving families, described the Friday night attack by Boko Haram insurgents as “very sad.”
“This community was resettled a few months ago, and people had returned to their normal activities, but unfortunately, they were attacked last night,” Zulum told reporters. “At this moment, we have confirmed that 63 people lost their lives, including about 60 civilians and five soldiers.”
The governor stressed the need for urgent deployment of newly trained Forest Guards to complement military operations in protecting vulnerable communities.
“The numerical strength of the military is not enough to cover everywhere. Two sets of Forest Guards have been trained, and one immediate solution is to deploy them to forests and vulnerable locations,” he said.

Also reacting, the Senator representing Borno Central, Kaka Lawan, condemned the killings as a crime against humanity and pledged legislative support to Zulum’s efforts in restoring peace.
