FG launches Mission 300 to combat energy poverty
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ending energy poverty through a strategic stakeholder engagement forum aimed at driving the implementation of Nigeria’s National Energy Compact under the Mission 300 initiative.
The high-level forum, scheduled for July 8, 2025, is being organised by the Federal Ministries of Power and Finance in partnership with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL).
Mission 300, a continental initiative led by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank, with backing from The Rockefeller Foundation, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, and SEforALL, seeks to connect 300 million people in Africa to electricity by 2030.
Nigeria is among the 12 countries selected for the first phase of the rollout and has committed to major reforms aimed at expanding energy access, promoting renewable energy, and attracting private sector investment.
To drive the implementation, the government has established a Compact Delivery and Monitoring Unit to coordinate efforts and track progress toward Mission 300 targets.
The stakeholder forum will bring together top government officials, development partners, and private sector leaders to assess progress, share best practices, and reinforce Nigeria’s strategy for delivering on its energy access goals.
The forum will also spotlight Nigeria’s National Energy Compact, which was formally launched at the Dar es Salaam Energy Summit in January 2025.
Under the compact, Nigeria aims to; Double the annual electricity access growth rate from 4% to 9%, Increase clean cooking access from 22% to 25% annually

These targets underscore Nigeria’s commitment to achieving universal energy access by 2030 while fostering a transparent, investment-friendly environment to attract long-term financing into the sector.
