Taraba governor set to procures 10000 tons of grains to fight hunger

The Taraba State Government has disclosed it plans to purchase up to 10,000 metric tons of assorted grains for distribution to its citizens, as part of efforts to tackle hunger.
Governor Agbu Kefas, who made this disclosure in a New Year address to the people of the state, stating that he already purchased 3,500 metric tons of assorted grains and the remaining 6,500 metric tons would be procured before the end of the first quarter of the year.
“In order to respond to the threat of hunger, we have procured 3,500 metric tons of assorted grains and reserved them for our citizens,” Kefas stated. “Our target is to procure up to 10,000 metric tons of assorted grains.”

The governor emphasised that peace remained the foundation for progress, noting that his administration had bolstered security across all 168 wards of the state.
This effort, according to the governor, includes collaborating with security agencies through the Joint Intelligence Network, expanding the Taraba Marshall, and working closely with traditional institutions and neighbouring states to address the security challenges.
FCNN gathered that in the education, sector Kefas, administration had significantly invested in the future of Taraba’s children.
“We have successfully launched free and compulsory education for primary and secondary levels.
“This year, we will continue to improve school infrastructure, recruit qualified teachers, and ensure access to quality education for all. Modern schools are going to be constructed in all LGAs using innovative building technologies,” he said.
While pledging to prioritise skill acquisition programmes and entrepreneurship support for the youths, the governor noted that the state’s agricultural revolution was yielding results, citing the remodeling of agricultural facilities, provision of modern farm inputs, and training of youths in advanced farming systems.
On higher education, Kefas announced reforms aimed at improving service delivery and infrastructure.
“The Ministry of Tertiary Education was created to enhance quality service delivery and upgrade physical infrastructures. We will review all academic programmes and staffing to align with modern academic practices. It will not be business as usual, and we will not tolerate any act of sabotage,” he warned.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and citizen engagement, stressing that every naira spent would be accounted for.
He called on Tarabans to unite for the common good, emphasising the strength of the state’s diversity.
“I urge all citizens of Taraba State across ethnic, religious, and political lines to unite for the common good. The strength of our diversity lies in our ability to work together toward shared goals,” he said.
