Taraba State Signs Landmark Waste-to-Power Deal, Set to Generate 15MW of Clean Energy

The Taraba State government has partnered with SectorLead Limited to establish a 15MW Waste-to-Power Plant, a groundbreaking project aimed at converting municipal waste into clean energy.

The agreement, signed at the Government House in Jalingo, marks a significant step toward tackling the state’s energy deficit and improving waste management. The 25-year renewable contract was finalized in the presence of key state officials, including the Programme Director of the Strategy and Portfolio Delivery Office (SPDO), the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change and the Commissioner for Waste Management and Resource.

SectorLead Limited hailed the initiative as a transformative development for the state, emphasizing its long-term economic and environmental benefits.

“By turning waste into a valuable resource, the state is not only reducing its carbon footprints but also laying the foundation for economic prosperity and sustainable growth,” said Mr. Adedayo Mustapha, CEO of SectorLead Limited, shortly after the signing ceremony.

The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7, 12 and 13, which focus on Affordable and Clean Energy, Responsible Consumption & Production and Climate Action.

Once operational, the plant will help cut carbon emissions, promote industrial sustainability, and serve as a model for eco-friendly infrastructure in Nigeria.

SectorLead further described the project as a game-changer, stating that it will significantly reduce landfill waste and greenhouse gas emissions while improving environmental health.

“By generating 15MW of power from waste, the plant will strengthen Taraba State’s energy supply and boost energy security. In addition to its environmental and energy benefits, the project will create jobs during both the construction and operational phases, stimulating economic growth and improving livelihoods.

“This Waste-to-Power Plant is not just a project; it’s a turning point for Taraba State. The environmental, economic, and energy benefits of this initiative are enormous. We are proud to partner with the Taraba State Government, whose vision for sustainable development is commendable. Together, we are paving the way for a greener, more prosperous future, aligned with global climate goals,” added Mustapha.

The project represents a major step forward in Nigeria’s drive toward sustainable energy solutions, offering both environmental and economic advantages for Taraba State and beyond.
