The U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has issued a stark warning to terrorist groups operating in Nigeria, vowing that American forces will take direct action against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militant networks responsible for years of violence targeting Christian communities.

Speaking from the Pentagon, Hegseth condemned what he described as a “systematic genocide” against Christians in Nigeria, declaring that the United States would no longer remain on the sidelines as massacres continue unchecked.

“To Boko Haram, ISWAP, and the Fulani militants: You have targeted Christians because you believed no one would come to their defense. You were wrong,” Hegseth said. “The United States military is the most lethal fighting force in human history, and we are coming for you. There will be no negotiations. There will be no sanctuary.”

“The announcement followed President Donald Trump’s decision to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern for violations of religious freedom, reversing a 2021 move by the Biden administration that had lifted the designation.

“The order authorizes the Pentagon to prepare operational plans aimed at protecting Christian populations and eliminating militant groups responsible for ongoing atrocities.

“Hegseth accused the Nigerian government of complicity and inaction, citing several cases in which local authorities allegedly ignored advance warnings of attacks on Christian villages. He announced an immediate suspension of all U.S. military and financial aid to Nigeria’s federal government, stating: “If you will not protect your Christian citizens, we will  with or without your permission.”

“”According to Hegseth, more than 125,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria since 2009, with an average of 32 deaths per day in 2025 alone. He called the crisis “one of the greatest crimes against humanity in modern history” and accused international media outlets of deliberately downplaying the situation.

“When terrorists chant ‘Allahu Akbar’ while burning families alive in their homes, that is not climate change  that is evil,” he said. “The deliberate refusal to name the victims and identify their murderers is complicity.”

“The Secretary, a former U.S. Army officer and combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, described the forthcoming U.S. action as both strategic and moral. “What we are preparing to do in Nigeria is not reckless  it is righteous,” he said. “This is America’s calling not to be the world’s policeman, but to be the world’s protector of the innocent.”

“Hegseth’s remarks concluded with a stark warning to the perpetrators of violence: “When you hear the Reaper overhead, you may fall to your knees and beg for divine intervention. I have news for you  God heard your victims’ prayers first. We are His answer.”

“As of press time, there had been no official response from the Nigerian government regarding Hegseth’s declaration. Analysts predict possible diplomatic fallout, noting that a direct U.S. military operation in Nigeria would represent an unprecedented escalation in West Africa.

“While Christian advocacy groups and human rights organizations praised the statement as “bold” and “long overdue,” foreign policy experts warned that unilateral American intervention could risk further destabilizing the region and straining relations with African partners.

“Despite such concerns, Hegseth appeared resolute in his commitment. “The world is watching to see if America still has the courage of its convictions,” he said. “They are about to get their answer.”
