Texas Flooding Claims 10 Lives, Several Still Missing

At least 10 people have died due to severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall in Texas, authorities confirmed Friday. Several others remain missing.

San Antonio was hit hard Thursday morning as intense downpours triggered flash floods that swept vehicles off roads and into creek beds, local broadcaster KENS5 reported.

The San Antonio Fire Department is actively searching for at least four more individuals believed to be missing.

By Friday afternoon, city officials confirmed the death toll had risen to 10.

“Our hearts are with the families of those we’ve lost to this week’s flash floods and those still searching for loved ones,” said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg in a statement posted on X.

He also extended his gratitude to first responders and their families for their dedication during the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.

According to city officials, emergency crews have conducted over 70 water rescues and responded to 16 high-water incidents since the flooding began.

Experts warn that human-driven climate change, fueled by fossil fuel emissions, is intensifying the frequency and severity of extreme weather events like this week’s torrential rains.
