President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized an increase in salaries and allowances for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of renewed efforts to improve troop welfare and strengthen national security operations.
The announcement was disclosed during an interfaith Iftar with members of the armed forces held at the Presidential Villa Abuja on Friday.
At the gathering, the Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria—represented by the Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria—expressed appreciation to the president for approving the enhanced welfare package. The measures include salary adjustments, improved allowances, procurement of modern military equipment, and the construction of better housing for service members.
According to the defence leadership, the salary review and welfare improvements are expected to raise the morale of troops currently engaged in various security operations across the country.
The defence chief noted that the approvals also cover the upward review of allowances for personnel of the Brigade of Guards Nigeria and additional support for military logistics and accommodation.
He emphasized that the welfare improvements would strengthen the effectiveness of troops deployed to tackle terrorism, banditry, and other security threats affecting different regions of the country.
“These approvals will significantly boost operational efficiency, and members of the armed forces have welcomed them with appreciation,” he stated.
Addressing the soldiers at the event, President Tinubu commended their bravery and dedication to safeguarding the nation. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by military personnel, many of whom spend extended periods away from their families while serving on the front lines.
The president praised their courage in confronting terrorists and armed bandits, assuring them that the country remains grateful for their commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s determination to strengthen the military through sustained investments in modern weapons systems, intelligence gathering capabilities, and operational logistics.
He added that ongoing military operations have recorded progress in weakening terrorist and bandit groups operating in various parts of the country.
The president further thanked Nigerians for their patience amid the government’s economic reforms, stating that the sacrifices being made by both citizens and security forces are essential for the country’s long-term development.
“I want to assure you that the sacrifices of our security personnel and citizens are not in vain. We are gradually emerging from a difficult period,” he said.
During the event, the president also extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State following a recent terrorist attack in the state.
