Tinubu celebrates icon, Shobanjo, at 80

The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated Dr. Biodun Shobanjo, a pioneering figure in Nigeria’s advertising and marketing communications industry as he marks the occasion of his 80th birthday.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president, Tinubu praised Shobanjo’s decades long impact on the sector, describing him as a pathfinder whose achievements continue to inspire professionals across the country.
“Dr. Shobanjo’s remarkable journey as a broadcaster, entrepreneur, and advertising guru exemplifies discipline, integrity, and dedication”, the statement read.
Shobanjo began his illustrious career at the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation before joining Grant Advertising in 1971, where he rose to the position of deputy managing director.
In 1980, he took a bold step by founding Insight Communications, a firm that revolutionized Nigeria’s advertising landscape.
President Tinubu also acknowledged Shobanjo’s pivotal role in advancing marketing communications, a sector he noted is crucial for driving economic growth and social development.
“His visionary contributions have fostered progress not only within the industry but across Nigeria’s broader development landscape,” the statement said.
Tinubu also expressed his confidence in Shobanjo’s ability to continue mentoring young professionals, emphasizing the need for adherence to best practices rooted in truth, transparency, and the promotion of local content values that aligned with Nigeria’s national development goals.
The president further extended heartfelt wishes for his good health and continued success as Shobanjo marks his milestone birthday,
“His legacy stands as a beacon of excellence and a source of inspiration for generations to come,” the statement further stated.
