Tinubu Celebrates Lalong at 61, Commends His Legacy of Leadership and Loyalty
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt birthday greetings to Senator Simon Bako Lalong, recognizing his remarkable legacy of leadership and unwavering dedication to Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole.
In a statement released on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu applauded Lalong for his outstanding career as a lawyer, politician and current Senator representing Plateau South in the National Assembly.
Lalong previously held office as Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly before serving as the state governor from 2015 to 2023.
The President highlighted Lalong’s leadership during a particularly turbulent era in Plateau, crediting him with fostering peace and unity in the often volatile North-Central region.
President Tinubu also acknowledged Lalong’s crucial support during the 2023 presidential elections, where he served as the Director-General of Tinubu’s campaign, describing his contributions as both “loyal” and “remarkable.”

Highlighting Lalong’s principled choice to leave his role as Minister of Labour and Employment to return to serve his people in the Senate, Tinubu said:
“Such was his commitment to the state that he stepped down from the federal cabinet to take up a seat in the National Assembly.”
The President concluded by wishing the senator continued good health, strength, and many more years of service to his people and the nation.
