Just in: Arrested killers of Anambra lawmaker, Azuka escaped from police custody

Policemen attached to the Anambra State Police Command have commenced a manhunt for two alleged killers of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, who escaped from police custody.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists by police spokesperson in Anambra, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga on Tuesday night.

It could be recalled that on December 24, 2024, a gang of kidnappers abducted Justice Azuka, a serving lawmaker in Anambra State.

Security operatives discovered his body on February 6 at the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha and after a thorough investigations, police arrested nine suspects in connection with the murder.

The Spokesperson stated that the escape occurred when police operatives took the two suspects on an operation to apprehend a receiver of stolen vehicles linked to the criminal gang.

“During the operation, the receiver was arrested, and two stolen vehicles were recovered. Unfortunately, the two suspects managed to flee the scene,” he said.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, stated that his men has launched a manhunt to re-arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Police boss has further ordered immediate disciplinary action against any officers found culpable in the incident, assuring the public that stringent measures are in place to ensure justice.
