Tinubu Mourns Passing of Gwo Gwo Ngwo Singer

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of legendary Nigerian folklorist, songwriter, and Igbo-language musician, Mike Ejeagha, who passed away on Friday at the age of 95.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President paid tribute to Ejeagha’s immense contribution to Nigerian music and culture. He highlighted how the late musician used his distinctive storytelling and melodic style to preserve and promote Igbo traditions, inspiring generations with his artistry.
“May the spirit and values of Gentleman Mike Ejeagha’s music continue to remind us that music has the power to revive, heal, and redirect energy toward worthy causes that build our nation,” President Tinubu said.
The President also commended the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, for recognizing and celebrating the music icon during his lifetime.
He prayed for God Almighty to grant eternal rest to Ejeagha’s soul and offered comfort to his family, friends, and admirers mourning his loss.

Ejeagha’s legacy found renewed recognition in recent years as his timeless hit, Gwo Gwo Ngwo, resurfaced and gained viral popularity among younger audiences.
