Tinubu Names New Service Chiefs in Sweeping Military Reshuffle
President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, appointing new service chiefs to head the Army, Navy, and Air Force, in what the presidency described as a move to “strengthen national security and operational efficiency.”
Under the new structure, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, while Major-General W. Shaibu becomes Chief of Army Staff. Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke takes over as Chief of Air Staff and Rear Admiral I. Abbas assumes command as Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

In a statement released by the Presidential Spokesperson, President Tinubu commended the outgoing service chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” urging the newly appointed officers to uphold professionalism, unity and vigilance in the discharge of their duties.
“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement added.
Security analysts view the changes as part of the President’s broader strategy to revamp Nigeria’s security command and improve coordination among the military arms amid ongoing challenges of insurgency, banditry, and communal conflicts across parts of the country.
