Tinubu to Inaugurate Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Section 1 on Saturday

President Bola Tinubu will officially inaugurate Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on Saturday, May 31, as part of his working visit to Lagos, according to a statement released by the Presidency on Monday.

The highway is a key project under his administration’s infrastructure agenda. Alongside the inauguration of this section, the President will also launch other major infrastructure initiatives, including the Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, the groundbreaking for Section II of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the 7th Axial Road.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, noted that Tinubu will also conduct virtual inaugurations of several completed road projects across northern Nigeria.

These include the Kano-Kanwar-Danja-Hadejiya Section II Road, Yakasai-Zalli Road, Kano Northern By-pass, Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Section I, Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi Road, and the Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya Section III.

President Tinubu’s visit to Lagos will also coincide with events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which he currently chairs.

The ECOWAS golden jubilee celebrations, which began in Accra in April 2025, will continue in Lagos with a reenactment of the 1975 founding declaration at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island.

At Eko Hotels and Suites, President Tinubu will deliver a keynote address reflecting on the bloc’s achievements. He will be joined by Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), the only surviving signatory to the original 1975 declaration, who is expected to give a commemorative speech.

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, will deliver the welcome address. Former Minister of External Affairs and distinguished diplomat Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi will lead a review of ECOWAS’s 50-year history, supported by expert panel discussions at the NIIA.
