Tinubu Unveils New Defence Complex, Reaffirms Commitment to a Modern and Professional Military

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a well-equipped and professional military that upholds the pride and values of Nigeria.

Speaking on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony of a new Defence Complex and the inauguration of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Army Barracks in Abuja, the President highlighted his administration’s focus on enhancing the nation’s security infrastructure.

Describing the event as a pivotal step in strengthening Nigeria’s defence, Tinubu emphasized that the projects reflect a renewed dedication to military excellence and democratic principles.

“This ceremony marks the start of a construction project and the foundation of a renewed commitment to our military and the values we hold dear as a democracy. On this occasion, we open a new chapter in our nation’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our people. As your Commander-in-Chief, I pledge to support our troops and their families,” Tinubu stated.

The President lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Gwabin Musa and the Service Chiefs, commending their courage and resilience in safeguarding the nation’s peace and development.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices of military personnel and pledged continued support for their welfare and operational capacity, aligning with his “Renewed Hope” agenda for a secure and prosperous Nigeria.

The newly inaugurated Bola Ahmed Tinubu Army Barracks and the planned Defence Complex represent a cornerstone in modernizing the Nigerian Armed Forces. Tinubu noted:

“As we break the ground on this Armed Forces Complex, let it symbolise our nation’s respect and admiration for your unwavering service and our dedication to providing the resources you need to function better. This edifice, when completed, will not only stand as a centre of loyalty but a national monument that every Nigerian would be proud of.”

Tinubu also spotlighted local production of military equipment, announcing advancements in defence manufacturing through collaborations with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria and private entities such as EPAIL and ProForce.

“I am particularly proud to share that our efforts in developing a military-industrial complex have begun to yield positive results. These initiatives, driven by significant research and development, have enhanced our domestic defence capabilities. Thus, with great pride and pleasure, I announce the assembly of these displayed Tactical Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) produced in Nigeria,” Tinubu said.
