
A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 27-year-old trader, Murtar Mohammed to one year in prison for stealing two phones from a shop.
The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Bokkos in her judgment gave the convict an option of fine of N30, 000 or spend six months in prison.
She also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N60, 000 to the complainant or spend another six months in default.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Thiawar told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station on April 16, by one Sa’ad Mohammed the complainant.
Thiawar said that the convict went to the shop in a market and stole the two phones valued at N108, 000 before he was caught.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
