Machine Explosion Sparks Fire at Ibadan Industrial Facility

The Oyo State Fire Service has attributed a major fire outbreak at an industrial facility in Ibadan to an explosion from a running machine.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday at Shril-Balaj Industrial Limited in the Olopomeji area of Ibadan, led to the destruction of properties worth millions of naira. According to investigations, the fire began in the recycling section of the facility, which contained a large stockpile of disused tires.

Eyewitnesses revealed to reporters that the blaze rapidly consumed the affected section, prompting a swift response from the state fire service.

In a statement on Monday, Chairman of the State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed that the agency received the fire alert at exactly 7:07 a.m. on Sunday.

“The fire was triggered by an explosion from a machine in operation, which ignited flammable materials nearby, sparking a massive blaze,” Akinwande said. “The fire impacted the recycling section and damaged several disused tires, but our team was able to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the company.”

This incident follows a similar fire outbreak in April, where at least 12 shops were destroyed in a nighttime blaze at Block A, No. 64, Mayegun Cement Store Market, Araromi, Agodi-Gate.
