Troops Reject N13 Million Bribe from Terrorists During Plateau Operation – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that troops of Operation Safe Haven turned down a N13 million bribe offered by terrorists during a recent operation in Plateau State.

This was disclosed on Thursday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, during a media briefing on military operations across the country.

According to Kangye, the troops were responding to a distress call regarding terrorist activities when they encountered two terrorists who attempted to bribe them.

Kangye stated, “Within the period 9 – 16 July 2025, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN conducted offensive operations and responded to distress calls on terrorists’ activities in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom and Jos East Local Government Areas of Plateau State as well as Kaura and Sanga Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.”

“While conducting these operations, they contacted extremists and killed some of them, arrested 12 and rescued three kidnapped victims. Some weapons, ammunition, motorcycles and vehicles were recovered from them,” he added.

He further explained that troops on routine patrol in Barkin Ladi and Jos South LGAs of Plateau, as well as Wamba and Sanga LGAs in Nasarawa and Kaduna States, apprehended seven criminals and seized weapons, ammunition, motorcycles and illicit drugs.

Kangye recounted an incident on July 9, 2025, where troops intercepted a bullet-ridden vehicle along the Jos–Sanga road. “Suspects attempted to induce troops with monetary gratification, while they declined. Troops arrested two suspects, recovered weapons, ammunition, a vehicle and the sum of N13,742,000.00 from them,” he said.

The DHQ confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the recovered items remain in military custody.
