Again, WAEC student dies mysteriously in Ogun

A tragic accident occurred on Friday in the Ikangba area of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, when a truck lost control and struck students from Seico Secondary School.
A female student, reportedly writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), was killed instantly, while another student sustained critical injuries.
The crash happened along the recently rehabilitated Ikangba/Agoro Road as the students were heading home after completing their exams for the day.
According to Mr. Eko Nicholas, a local resident, the truck was traveling from the Molipa end when it suddenly veered off its lane, hitting the students and then crashing into the fence of a nearby Redeemed Christian Church of God parish.
“Nobody is certain what caused the truck to swerve, but it struck the students coming from the opposite direction before smashing into the church fence,” Nicholas said.
He added, “The students were clearly WASSCE candidates, holding their exam papers.
Sadly, one female student died at the scene, while another was seriously injured. We are praying for her recovery.”
Nicholas, who serves as Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR), expressed concern over the rising number of accidents on the road since its rehabilitation.
He attributed the incidents to the government’s failure to install speed breakers or other traffic calming measures to curb speeding and reckless driving.
“This is another avoidable loss on Ikangba/Agoro Road. Since February, six people have died in accidents here, with many others injured,” he lamented.
Nicholas urged the state government to urgently install speed bumps and streetlights along the road, noting the presence of several schools in the area with many children walking daily.
The CDWR had previously written to the government about these safety concerns but received no response.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the accident.
