Trump to Declare National Emergency, End Birthright Citizenship, and Deploy Military to Border
Donald Trump, set to be sworn in as the 47th president on Monday, will waste no time in reshaping U.S. immigration and citizenship policies, according to incoming administration officials.
Trump plans to issue a series of executive orders, including declaring a national emergency at the southern border, aimed at significantly curbing migration into the United States.
“We are going to declare a national emergency at the border,” said incoming White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly. “The Executive Order directs the military to prioritize our borders and territorial integrity.”
Trump’s measures will also target the long-standing practice of birthright citizenship, which grants U.S. citizenship to anyone born on American soil.
“We’re going to end asylum,” Kelly stated, “and create an immediate removal process without the possibility of asylum. We are then going to end birthright citizenship.”

The practice of birthright citizenship is rooted in the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees citizenship to anyone born in the country. However, Kelly said the administration’s actions would “clarify” the amendment to exclude children of undocumented immigrants.
“Federal government will not recognize automatic birthright citizenship for children of illegal aliens born in the United States,” she added.
The sweeping measures align with Trump’s campaign promises to reduce migration and address concerns about changing demographics. These executive actions are expected to spark significant debate and legal challenges in the coming weeks.
