Two Dead, 15 Injured in Osun Road Accident

Two people lost their lives and 15 others sustained injuries in a lone accident involving a truck on Wednesday morning at Iwo Junction, along the Osogbo/Gbongan Road in Gbongan, Osun State.

According to a statement by Agnes Ogungbemi, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Osun, the truck was traveling from Kebbi State to Ikire when the accident occurred around 8:26 a.m.

The truck, which was heavily loaded with about 70 animals—including cattle, goats, and sheep—also carried several human passengers seated atop the animals. Ogungbemi revealed that several of the animals died in the crash, while many others were severely injured and unable to stand.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver may have dozed off multiple times after passing through Osogbo.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver appeared to fall asleep again near the Surprise Hotel area in Gbongan, causing the vehicle to veer off the road, tumble into a ditch, and overturn—violently ejecting both passengers and animals.

Emergency responders from the FRSC quickly arrived at the scene.

Two of the injured victims and one of the deceased were taken to a private hospital in Gbongan, while 13 other injured passengers and the second corpse were transported to another private medical facility in the area.
